2007-2008 Luminex/ACMGF Award Recipient Announced By ACMG Foundation

The American College of Medical Genetics Foundation (ACMGF) recently awarded Stuart Schwartz, PhD, FACMG of the University of Chicago the 2007-2008 Luminex Molecular Diagnostics (formerly Tm BioScience)/ACMGF Award at the ACMG 2007 Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting in Nashville, TN. The award includes a $100,000 grant to a member of the American College of Medical Genetics and is aimed at the promotion of safe and effective genetic testing and services, including the development of research guidelines.

"Medical geneticists pay a crucial role in translating genetic science into medical services and in defining the integration of genetics into health care and public health. The Luminex/ACMGF Award recognizes this vital role of medical geneticists by supporting an individual in undertaking activities that promote the highest levels of safety and effectiveness in genetic testing and genetic services." said R. Rodney Howell, MD, FACMG, President of the ACMGF.

Dr. Schwartz's project is titled "Development of a Model for Whole Genome Array Analysis" and his studies will allow for the development of a clinical practice model incorporating the use of whole genome SNP array.
