50% of UK people have high cholesterol levels
According to the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey, 48% of men and women have levels higher than 5.2mmol/L.
- 12% of men, 11% of women had cholesterol readings of 6.5 - 7.8 mmol/L.
- As people got older their readings went up. 59% of men, 75% of women aged 50-64 had readings above 5.3mmol/L.
- Today 25% of men, 20% of women are obese (8% and 12% in 1987).
- 41% of all men and 33% of all women are overweight.
- 35% of men, 26% of women exercised enough. This is surprising as most of these people (70%) though that they were exercising enough.
