American Society Of Safety Engineers' Safety Professionals To Speak At Asse-Singapore Regional Safety Conference

What: To help educate businesses about the value of safety at work, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Singapore Institution of Safety Officers (SISO) are working together to host the ASSE-SISO Regional Safety Conference "Integrating Safety - A Business Advantage," which will be held in Singapore and will feature topics, including supply chain and product safety risk assessment; business metrics for safety, health and the environment (SH&E); business continuity planning; being incident- and injury-free in today's workplace; SH&E regulatory overview in Singapore and Malaysia; presenting the value of safety to management; and more.

When: April 30, 2008, Pre-conference April 28 - 29, 2008

Where: Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel
177A River Valley Road
179031 Singapore
Singapore

Why: The goal of the regional conference is to teach businesses about the value of safety at work, that it is not just for high-risk industries but a core business value across all industries. Considering that businesses around the world spend nearly $200 billion a year on costs associated with occupational injuries, as much as five percent of a company's total profits could be saved by implementing health and safety programs. The regional safety conference will provide tools to help business and safety professionals analyze business processes in order to integrate safety to its best advantage; use business skills to enhance communication with management and receive support for safety and health from management and workers; and demonstrate the benefits safety and health contributes to the business goals to management. There will also be a two-day pre-conference workshop on equipment engineering safety evaluation training.

Approximately 400 participants are expected to attend, including delegates from the U.S., Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and throughout Asia Pacific. ASSE International Practice Specialty Administrator Stuart Wood, CPEA, and Assistant Administrator John "Jack" Fearing, CPEA, will speak at the one-day conference on supply chain and product safety risk assessments; business metrics for safety, health and the environment; and selling safety to management. Currently Wood serves as senior director of environmental, health and safety for C&S Wholesale Grocers and Fearing serves as a senior consultant for Aon Global Risk Consulting.

The Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Workplace Safety and Health Advisory Committee (WSHAC) are also supporting the ASSE-SISO conference, which coincides with the National Workplace Safety and Health Campaign organized by WSHAC and the Singapore MOM. The Singapore Campaign begins on April 29, 2008 and aims to raise awareness of workplace safety in Singapore. The ASSE-SISO regional conference will also be part of this year's North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) week celebration, which runs May 4 - 10, 2008, and focuses on how safety is good business.

The Singapore Institution of Safety Officers (SISO) was founded in 1975 to provide opportunities for networking and interaction among occupational safety and health officers and practitioners.
