China heightens surveillance for SARS as Golden Week holiday nears
Last year the Golden Week was cut short as the SARS outbreak spread.
There are no further cases of SARS, says the Chinese Health Ministry. The two women who survived now have normal temperatures and are in a stable condition, says the Ministry.
Circulars have been sent nationwide to all transport centers. Officials have been told to strengthen quarantine work to make sure SARS is contained and does not spread.
Every train and plane passenger coming from Beijing and the Anhui province are having their temperatures taken.
The woman who died this week had been treating her daughter, a medical student, for SARS. Last year 800 people in China died from SARS. A nurse who treated the student also has SARS. A work colleague of the person who died also has SARS, he was a post-doctoral researcher. Three other people who were in close contact with her are recovering after a fever.
China has asked help from the World Health Organisation's biosafety investigation team. They want help in tracking down exactly what caused this outbreak.
A spokesman for WHO said "A lab team is being sent to determine what happened. If it was a laboratory accident, we have to find out how it happened, why it happened, and how to prevent it from happening in the future."
