"A ban on the wearing of crocs is an extreme reaction to three isolated incidents in one unit in one hospital in one country. And there is no proof that crocs were to blame.
"Of course we need to monitor what is happening elsewhere, but we need to understand that health workers are on their feet for an 8-hour shift and this footwear appears both versatile and comfortable. So long as nurses are buying colours that are appropriate with the uniform policy and are wearing them with the slings back not at the front, they should cause no health and safety issue. One could argue that because they are rubber and, therefore, washable they may actually contribute in a positive way to reducing infection control rates.
"Surely there are more serious issues facing the NHS today, than the fashion design of nursing footwear."
