Free Personal Care: Alzheimer Scotland Welcomes Recommendations From Audit Scotland
Jim Jackson, Chief Executive at Alzheimer Scotland, said "We agree that there should be clarification, once and for all, of the guidance regarding food preparation. This should show that when people with dementia are given help to prepare their meals, this is included in their free personal care."
Alzheimer Scotland's major 2007 report, The Dementia Epidemic - Where Scotland is Now and the Challenge Ahead, revealed the problems of insufficient services and great variability in care provision between different parts of the country. On average, 11% of people with dementia living in the community receive home care and 12% receive day care, against a working target of 28%. Carers also report a lack of services. In one survey, only 37% felt that the services available were sufficient for their needs. 30% said day care was unavailable and 50% could not access home support.
