Lippincott Williams & Wilkins And World Allergy Organization Launch New Online Journal

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), part of Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading provider of information and business intelligence for students, professionals, and institutions in medicine, nursing, allied health, pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry, announces a new publishing partnership with the World Allergy Organization (WAO). LWW and the WAO have launched a new online-only journal for the global allergy and clinical immunology community at http://www.waojournal.org.

The World Allergy Organization Journal (WAO Journal) will provide accessible, peer-reviewed original research, in-depth review, and editorial comment for the 25,000 members of WAO member societies, and for every allergist and clinical immunologist across the globe.

"Allergic diseases are on the rise across the world, causing an increasing public health and socio-economic burden. Access to quality information has never been more critical to our members," said Michael A. Kaliner, MD, FAAAAI, and Immediate Past President of the WAO. "The new WAO Journal will provide a forum for rapid communications and breaking news at a highly clinical level. We are pleased to have an experienced publishing partner who can deliver our news in a format that will provide real value to our members."

"Given both the rapid developments in allergic disease and the interdisciplinary nature of allergy research, we suggested to the WAO that an online journal could provide the best possible resource to their widespread membership," said Betsy Jones, EVP and general manager of journal publishing at Wolters Kluwer Health. "Our goal as a medical publisher is to always provide the best content in the best format, and given the global reach of the WAO, spanning 92 countries, the online format will help to make their information current and accessible even in remote parts of the world."

The WAO Journal site launched in December 2007 with abstracts from the World Allergy Congress 2007. Original research articles and other content is posted monthly beginning January 2008. The site will also post breaking news relevant to the world allergy community as it happens. WAO members can stay current on news by subscribing to e-alerts, and RSS feed and PDA downloads. By accepting manuscripts online, and leveraging online review and editing tools, the WAO Journal will publish articles just eight weeks after acceptance. The standard time frame is three months. The journal will be available at no charge for six months.

The WAO Journal will publish under the leadership of two editors. Editor-in-Chief Johannes Ring, MD, PhD, is director and chairman of the Department of Dermatology and Allergology at Biederstein Technical University Munich, Germany. The Co-Editor-in-Chief is Lanny J. Rosenwasser, MD, a Professor of Allergy and Immunology and Chair of Pediatric Immunology Research at Children's Mercy Hospital & Clinics, Kansas City MO. The editorial board includes representation from 25 different countries.
