Maple Leaf Foods Ham And Meat Contaminated, Canada

Maple Leaf Foods and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency have issued a warning, telling people not to consume or buy specific brands of sliced meat products and ham. The warning explains that an unknown contaminant has been introduced into the foods. Maple Leaf Foods employees discovered syringe casings during the production process.

The warning relates to the following products:

-- 1/2 Kent Smoked Hams (approx. 2.2 lbs)
Best Before Date JA 01

-- 125 gram Schneider's Lifestyle Fat Free Cooked Ham Sliced
Best Before Date DE 29

-- 125 gram Schneider's Lifestyle Fat Free Cooked Ham Sliced
Best Before Date JA 04

-- 125 gram Schneider's Lifestyle Fat Free Turkey & Ham Sliced
Best Before Date DE 30

-- 125 gram Schneider's Lifestyle Fat Free Smoked Ham
Best Before Date DE 29

This warning is only of concern to people inside Canada.

Maple Leaf Foods, the Police, and The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) are investigating the matter. So far, nobody has become ill after consuming these products. Authorities say none of the mentioned products has been found in retail outlets.

Maple Leaf Foods said this is a voluntary recall.
