Physician Leaders, Top Political Analysts To Speak At DMAA 2008 Annual Meeting
Bruce Bagley, MD, medical director for quality improvement for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and a former AAFP president, and Paul Grundy, MD, chair of the Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative and IBM health benefits executive, will deliver the joint morning keynote Sept. 8 at The Forum 08, in Hollywood, Fla.
"Drs. Bagley and Grundy are widely recognized for their work in advancing the medical home model and are outstanding speakers," DMAA President and CEO Tracey Moorhead says. "We're extremely pleased to have these two physician leaders on our program and look forward to their insights on the synergies between the medical home model and population health improvement to improve care coordination for chronically ill and at-risk populations."
Also scheduled for The Forum 08, the DMAA 10th annual meeting, is another timely joint presentation: former U.S. Senator John Breaux, D-La., and acclaimed political analyst, Charlie Cook. These noted Washington insiders will share their thoughts Sept. 7 on the 2008 elections and likely impact on health care reform as the contest transforms the White House and Congress.
"You'd be hard-pressed to find two brighter minds in American politics than Sen. Breaux and Charlie Cook," Moorhead said.
Sen. Breaux led a long and distinguished career in Congress before joining Patton Boggs as senior counsel after retiring from the Senate in 2005. His latest venture is co-founding the Breaux-Lott Leadership Group, a lobbying firm for bipartisan solutions, with former Senator Trent Lott. Cook, widely regarded as one of the nation's premier analysts of U.S. elections and political trends, publishes The Cook Political Report and is a political analyst for the National Journal Group and NBC News.
Dr. Bagley, who has spoken extensively on performance measurement, office redesign, electronic health records and leadership, has chaired AAFP task forces on hospitalist physicians, obstetrics in family medicine, quality enhancement and electronic medical records. His current responsibilities include liaison work with other national organizations in the quality arena and active participation in the development and deployment of performance measures.
Before joining IBM, where he serves as director of healthcare technology and strategic initiatives for IBM Global Well Being Services and Health Benefits, Dr. Grundy served as a senior diplomat in the U.S. State Department in the interface of health and diplomacy. He has been the medical director for International SOS, the world's largest medical assistance company, and Adventist Health Systems, the second-largest not-for-profit medical system in the world.
