Pill patch 'safe to use', say UK experts
Media reports in the US have linked the use of the pill patch to possibly 17 deaths and 21 cases of blood clots and ailments. However, these reports have not been confirmed by the US Food and Drug Administration and various health agencies are stressing that anyone using the Evra in the UK should not be worried at this present time.
A spokeswoman for the Family Planning Association told BBC News Online that: "Women can be reassured the patch is a safe and highly effective method of contraception when appropriately prescribed."
She added: "Anyone using this method who is concerned should talk to their GP or practice nurse. Women shouldn't suddenly stop using the patch as they could then be at risk of unplanned pregnancy."
Meanwhile, the manufacturer Janssen-Cilag said that the patch was likely to have the same side-effects as the Pill but that they are continuing to investigate any reports of further complications associated with its use.
