Elevated BMI leads to more complications, but no difference in major complications.
Ureteral strictures are problematic and the major cause of renal dysfunction in the diverted patient. Balloon dilation of the stricture is rarely successful even in short strictures.
Urinary retention occurs in 25% of men undergoing orthotopic diversions. If the cause of the retention is treated, even if the retention is late, then normal voiding can resume.
