"Darzi's Proposals Will Create A More Balanced Approach To Outcomes Measurement" States The CCA, UK

The Company Chemists Association (CCA) gave its initial response to Professor Lord Darzi's presentation, launching the findings of his NHS Next Stage Review in England.

Rob Darracott, CCA CEO comments:

"The leitmotif that runs through this report is ensuring quality of care for all. By clarifying what quality means in the NHS, both through more explicit guidance from NICE and a national quality framework for all providers, there will be more transparency in the system. For the first time, patient assessments of their care will impact directly on provider payments. As well as clinical outcomes of care, patient reported outcomes will become increasingly important. The Pharmacy White Paper placed significant emphasis on outcomes measurement, so this new focus is critical - and needs to inform pharmacy policy thinking. Our members welcome this new approach. As businesses focused first and foremost on the needs of their customers, they know that patients' views are critical. We wait with interest to see how these new commitments translate into more customer focused services in practice."

The Company Chemists' Association (CCA) provides a forum for its member companies to work together to create an environment where community pharmacy can flourish, and where contractors compete in a fair and equitable way. Our nine members - Boots, The Co-operative pharmacy, Lloydspharmacy, Tesco, J Sainsbury, Wm Morrison Supermarkets, Asda Wal-Mart, Rowlands Pharmacy and Superdrug operate over 6,000 pharmacies - more than 50% of all the pharmacies in the United Kingdom.

An NHS led by local needs that demonstrates world class commissioning, with strengthened practice based commissioning;
Information technology as a mission critical issue;
Measures and use of patient reported outcomes to improve the quality of care and facilitate more meaningful patient choice;
