'Face Loss' Indeed Has A Greater Impact On The Chinese As Compared To The Americans
'Face' is defined as the reputation or credibility one has earned - a concept that is highly regarded among Asians.
This research goes beyond the comparison of which culture experiences more face loss, also examining whether the processes leading from face loss to relationship outcome is cultural-specific.
The Chinese displayed a higher level of anger and experienced a greater negative impact on relationship outcomes, as compared to the Americans. However, shame derived from 'face loss' was similar in both cultures.
