Australians living longer, surviving more cancers, fewer dying of heart disease
They are some of the key findings of a health report card, produced by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and released by Health Minister Tony Abbott today.
The report also finds that fewer Australians are smoking, dental health has improved and childhood vaccination rates have increased considerably.
However, Mr. Abbott had some bad news regarding Australia's indigenous population.
"Indigenous life expectancy is still 20 years or more below the life expectancy for the rest of the community and we are now suffering from epidemic diseases of affluence," he said.
"Obesity is a very serious problem and we have an epidemic of diabetes, which is at least in part a disease of lifestyle."
