Health research awarded lottery funding, UK
It is hoped that the funding will encourage schemes aimed at integrating society and improving services for the disadvantaged. The majority of the money will be invested in partnerships with various universities and research centres.
The organisations that have been awarded the funding include the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Meningitis Trust, Age Concern, Fathers Direct and the Youth Action Network.
Sir Clive Booth, chair of the Big Lottery Fund stated the importance of this funding.
"Our research grants show the wide range of ways in which Lottery Funding can help all groups of society," he said.
"Research into debilitating diseases to help find better methods of treatment is crucial to supporting those who are most vulnerable."
The Big Lottery Fund is the joint operating name of the New Opportunities Fund and the National Lottery Charities Board and is responsible for the allocation of 50 per cent of all National Lottery good cause funding.
