Iraqi boy leaves Tokyo hospital as eye heals
Mohamad Haytham Saleh, whose eye was injured during a battle in his hometown of Fallujah, Iraq, last year, had his first operation in Japan in June.
He returned for a corneal transplant and an artificial lens implant on Dec. 14 at Kyorin University Hospital in Mitaka, western Tokyo. After the operation, the eye became inflamed, but his condition improved after it was drained on Dec. 16.
His eye is healing, and he can differentiate between brightness and darkness in that eye.
"I'm very grateful for your help. I'm looking forward to being able to see (with my left eye) again," Mohamad said as he received a bouquet from a supporter.
