Leading Women's Health Organization And Wiley-Blackwell To Launch New Consumer Magazine, Health For Women

From the expert content provider behind Every Woman magazine comes a new revolution in women's health publishing. The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and Wiley-Blackwell today announced it will launch a new quarterly women's health magazine in March 2008.

Health For Women will reach the most powerful health care consumer-women-at the point of care by the most trusted health care providers-nurses. The magazine will be distributed at no charge to female patients by more than 3,000 nurses at private medical offices, women's health centers, corporate health and wellness centers, women's cancer and heart centers and specialty clinics throughout the U.S. and Canada. The magazine also has both controlled circulation and subscription-based distribution channels.

The magazine will be available by subscription for $12 a year (4 issues) at its website: http://www.HealthForWomenOnline.com

"Women are the primary decision makers and purchasers when it comes to not only their own health care but that of their families. They make more than 80% of these decisions in the United States alone and this magazine speaks directly to them, and their counterparts in Canada, with accuracy and sensitivity," said Barbara Moran, PhD, CNM, AWHONN president. Health For Women is written by widely respected, leading health experts dedicated to assisting women in making healthy lifestyle choices and effective healthcare decisions for themselves and their families."

With Health For Women, AWHONN continues a successful legacy of providing evidence-based women's health magazines that nurses want to distribute and that consumers want to read. For the past six years, AWHONN was the driving content and distribution force behind the former Every Woman magazine (circa 2 million), which was closed by its publisher in January 2007. During its publication, Every Woman won seven major health information awards, including "Health Care Consumer Publication of the Year" in 2006.

"We are thrilled with the opportunity to expand our publishing partnership with AWHONN," said Jon Walmsley, Managing Director, Professional Group at Wiley-Blackwell. " We look forward to working with AWHONN on developing a publication that will help improve the lives, health and wellness of women and their families."

Health For Women continues the conversation between women and their nurses to promote optimal health. In addition to leading women's health nurse experts, featured columnists writing in Health For Women include

- America's favorite "You" docs, Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen
- "Evidence Expert" Dr. Carolyn Clancy, Director of the federal Agency for Health Care Research & Quality
- Sexuality expert and author Dr. Anne Katz, RN, PhD
- Nutrition expert Jennifer Hellwig, MS, RD

The premiere issue features actress Virginia Madsen on aging gracefully, Roizen and Oz on staying young, trends in weight loss surgery, and the latest in health, wellness, food, fitness and holistic health care, including new twists on interval training, stopping heart disease, updated advice on vitamin D consumption and three uses for salmon in your daily diet. Advice is given on surviving panic attacks, what women need to know about men's health, the surprising increase of sexual infections in midlife women, why more adults are experiencing allergies, improving body image, and emerging healthy high-tech clothes and accessories perfect for your spring wardrobe.

"Nurses are typically the first and most consistent point of contact in the health care setting," Moran said. "They spend more time with patients - up to four times on average - than any other health care provider. The launch of this magazine is a natural fit for AWHONN, its members and the women we serve."

Health For Women is packed with "actionable" content women can act on immediately to promote their own health and that of their family and aging relatives. Surveys conducted among women who read Every Woman magazine shows women who will read this new magazine from AWHONN, Health For Women, will make changes to lead healthier lives, seek treatment for emerging health problems, discuss drug and therapy options with their nurses, and will take greater control in navigating the health care system and managing and promoting their own health.

Nurses can sign up to receive bulk copies at no charge for their female patients at http://www.awhonn.org or http://www.HealthForWomenOnline.com. Starting this spring, women who want to subscribe to Health For Women can do so at http://www.HealthForWomenOnline.com.
