Mainstreaming Action of Health Inequalities, HDA National Conference 2004

UK Secretary of State for Health Dr John Reid, Chief Medical Officer Sir Liam Donaldson and Derek Wanless will be among the key speakers at the Health Development Agency's (HDA) second annual conference, held in London on the 23rd and 24th of September 2004.

This year's theme is mainstreaming health inequalities; linking evidence, policy and practice, and the conference will address issues around improving public health and promote evidence-based action to tackle inequalities in health in areas such as maternal and child nutrition, falls and mobility and tobacco use.

Following the success of last year's conference, the HDA conference 2004 will bring together leading policy makers and practitioners in the NHS, public health, local government, economic development, regeneration, education, environment and NGO sectors.

Paul Streets, Chief Executive of the Health Development Agency, said;

"Tackling health inequalities and improving health should be part of the mainstream of everyone's planning, and I believe we are getting there. The findings of the government's consultation on public health, the publication of Wanless II and the White Paper just around the corner means that dealing with inequalities in health has never been so topical.

"The HDA provides evidence on what works, we all know what we should be doing and I'm optimistic that this conference will help us get that knowledge into everyone's practice."

Other speakers at the conference include Dame Yve Buckland, Chair of the HDA, Professor Al Aynsley-Green, National Clinical Director for Children and Dr Jane Powell, Health Economist, University of the West of England.
