Ministry Health Care To Implement GE Healthcare's Centricity Enterprise

GE Healthcare IT announced that Ministry Health Care of Wisconsin and Minnesota has signed a multi-year agreement to implement GE Healthcare's Centricity Enterprise version 6.1 to improve patient care, increase collaboration between clinicians and provide a better overall healthcare environment.

"We at Ministry Health Care, as long-time customers of GE Healthcare, share its vision of "early health," focusing on early diagnosis, pre-symptomatic disease detection, and disease prevention," said Will Weider, Chief Information Officer, Ministry Health Care and Affinity Health System. "This latest software will give us real-time access to a patient's electronic records, allowing the medical facilities in our network to more closely monitor changing health conditions, document assessments more quickly, and communicate seamlessly with all care providers. Time that caregivers previously spent on paperwork can now be focused on treating our patients."

Centricity Enterprise 6.1 will enable the Ministry's four acute care facilities in Wisconsin - St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield; Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls; Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley; and Saint Clare's Hospital, Weston/Wausau -- and the Weston Diagnostic and Treatment Center to incorporate these comprehensive capabilities that help caregivers provide safer care for patients and clinical excellence throughout their healthcare organization. St. Clare's, one of the most high-tech hospitals in the United States, is already completely chartless with all patient data instantly updated in an electronic medical records (EMR) system, ensuring a level of seamless care, safety, and accuracy not available from any other local healthcare system.

"Using our Centricity Enterprise software, clinicians throughout the Ministry Health Care network are also able to collaborate quickly and efficiently," said Laurent Rotival, senior vice president and general manager, GE Healthcare IT. "The software provides caregivers access to patient information across the healthcare continuum, including radiology and cardiology images and information - all right at the point of decision. This up-to-the-minute information helps caregivers to see, diagnose, and treat the patient with the best care, and is a key component of our transformational vision of "early health."

With the Centricity Enterprise system, a complete electronic health record is created by workflow automation and supporting clinical, financial and administrative processes. Centricity Enterprise integrates core clinical processes for orders, results, pharmacy, and care documentation in concert with administrative and financial processes for registration/admitting, charging, and billing. The system helps caregivers provide enhanced patient care through computerized physician order entry (CPOE), clinical decision support, and expert rules, while documenting all aspects of patient care.

The new version will also provide the ability to install add-ons in subsequent phases, and to capture information from bed monitors in intensive care units and medical-surgical areas via a new flow sheet application. According to Weider, "in addition to the patient care benefits, as Ministry Health Care expands the "chartless" technology beyond St. Clare's to other hospitals, we will realize the return on our investment because we save on the cost of building medical records storage and staffing for medical records retrieval and file room management."
