Royal College Of Radiologists Disappointed By Government Response To Tooke Report, Aspiring To Excellence

Responding to the news that the Department of Health has decided to accept some of the recommendations of Sir John Tooke's report into medical training, Professor Andy Adam, President of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), said, "We share the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges' 'reserved welcome' that the government has taken on board the majority of the findings of the Tooke Inquiry, but also its concern and disappointment that the establishment of NHS: Medical Education England (NHS:MEE) has been postponed.

"We sincerely hope that the rest of the recommendations still under consideration by the Secretary of State, particularly in regard to the establishment of NHS:MEE, will be accepted. Several of these recommendations are interdependent and a partial implementation will greatly reduce their effectiveness.

"The RCR is ready to offer its full support and guidance in the complete implementation of Sir John Tooke's recommendations, which will improve the training of the doctors of the future and bring great benefits to patients, and which are strongly supported by the medical profession as a whole."
