Wales Leads The Way In Attracting Junior Doctors To Wales
The film was filmed at various hospitals and general practices across Wales, gives current doctors in training and consultants an opportunity, in their own words, to highlight some of the key attractions that training in Wales offers.
Deputy Welsh Secretary of the BMA, Stephen Jones, who directed the film, believes that Wales has a great deal to offer both in terms of quality of life and the quality of training provided, which is very much targeted to the individual.
"Wales has it all, as the doctors on the film make clear. The standard of clinical training and the level of consultant support are as good as can be found anywhere, while working in attractive modern surroundings with good facilities and research opportunities. With the added benefits of a quality lifestyle - reasonably priced housing, good schools and access to beautiful countryside - Wales is a clear winner."
Professor Derek Gallen, Dean of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in Wales is also delighted with the result. "This film demonstrates that current doctors in specialist training recognise the added advantages that Wales offers to junior doctors and they are keen to encourage other doctors to follow their lead. After listening to doctors who have chosen to train and to build their career in Wales, I hope that those doctors who are applying for specialist training in 2008 now recognise that Wales should be their first choice."
All doctors who are short-listed for interview will receive the film, as part of their information pack.
The Wales Deanery is the first Deanery in the UK to adopt this innovative approach, where doctors currently in specialist training in Wales and leading Consultants reflect on the opportunities available. The film demonstrates the joint commitment of the Wales Deanery and BMA Cymru Wales to support junior doctors at every stage of their training.
