AMSN Endorses Proclamation For Change In Hospital-Patient Care Environment
The study identifies specific areas of inefficiency in the nurse work environment that reduce the time nurses can spend on direct patient care. The study reveals that nurses spend inordinate amounts of time on documentation, medication administration and care coordination, and substantially less time on direct patient care activities. The authors suggest changes in the work processes, technology infrastructure and physical design of nursing units that have the potential to increase nursing time available for patient care activities.
