Pfizer Statement on Status of Florida Medicaid Healthcare Management Program
-- Since its launch in June 2001, the Florida: A Healthy State initiative has reached more than 145,000 chronically ill Medicaid beneficiaries, nearly triple the number expected when this program was designed, through a number of health improving services.
-- For the first 2 years, Pfizer had guaranteed savings and investments of $33 million and announced preliminary year 1 savings of nearly $16 million.
-- Pfizer and the State expect to jointly release the results of the full period July 2001 through September 2003 in August.
-- The results will show a significant improvement in the health of thousands of Medicaid beneficiaries, the demonstrated success of a new, patient-centered approach to healthcare delivery and medical cost savings exceeding the guaranteed savings.
-- We anticipate that these results will clearly communicate the value of this innovative community partnership between Pfizer and the State as we continue to work together to serve the needs of this vulnerable, chronically ill population.
The Pfizer - Florida program will continue through the completion of the current contract in September 2005. Because of the outstanding results being achieved and the demonstrated benefits to patients, we look forward to discussions with the Governor, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and the Florida legislature about continuation of the program beyond 2005.
